Spay Day 2009 - Spotlight: Bully Breeds
Spay Day 2009 was a success!
We sterilized 28 Pit Bulls and helped spread the word about the importance of sterilization and responsible Pit Bull ownership. We want to thank our co-hosts and volunteers for their help and support in making this event a success. We also raised money to continue this service for individuals in need of assistance. On February 23, 2010 the Rascal Unit and Rascal Charities celebrated Spay Day by hosting a puppy event. We provided information about the importance of early sterilization in preventing health and behavior problems. We also addressed the importance of puppy wellness visits and training in increasing the chance of puppies retaining their forever home.
We offered surgeries for puppies 3 to 6 months of age for a cost to the owner of $25. In addition to the surgery, the price included:
1.DHLPP vaccine (if due)
2.Rabies vaccine (if due)
3.Interceptor puppy pack - Heartworm and intestinal parasite preventive
4.Flea treatment if fleas were seen
5.24 Pet Watch Microchip
We sterilized 49 puppies during this event!

Spay Day 2010 - Spotlight: Puppies
The Rascal Unit and Columbus Dog Connection hosted a special event titled Spotlight: Big and Beautiful on February 22, 2011. We offered sterilization to large breed dogs and puppies at a reduced cost, including Rabies vaccination if due, of $35 per dog.
We had an incredible response and surpassed our goal by sterilizing 43 female and 23 male large breed dogs for a total of 66. The Rascal Unit staff and volunteers came together to make this a well coordinated effort that will help decrease the number of unwanted litters this year. This event also allowed individuals with financial difficulties sterilize their large breed dogs at an affordable cost, thus preventing them from reproducing and possibly ending up in a shelter or being euthanized.
